This past Saturday night I was flipping through the channels and The Wire was on BET. It was on from 11:30-1:00am. I started to watch but it was bleeping every other word and driving me crazy. What fun is it to watch again if you bleep everything out???

Can anyone help me with my question? Why do the police ranks in the Wire jump from lieutenant to major - why no captain?

One thing that lead him to that conclusion is that he was killed in a rage not cool and mythodical like the rest of the bodies in the vacants also it was never specified why he was in jail and he looked like he had a pretty heavy sheet

hi wire lovers

i have a question? how did bunk know that michael's stepfather molested him? or any one else for that matter?
in one episode bunk looks at the stepfather's picture and calls him a "baby-bumpin !@##$$!".
how did he know? was he in jail for that (molesting children). somehow i thought he was in jail for drugs.

Bodie's character on Oz was Kenny Wangler, he was the youngest inmate ever in the prison.

Turn on the subtitles, and then just ask here. But be careful, sometimes they're wrong. Like at the beginning of S. 4, episode 1 when Snoop is buying the nail gun, the subtitles say "..keep it for your time. You earned that buck like a muthufuckuh." She actually is saying "you earned that BUMP like a muthufuckuh."

There really isn't that much slang.

Most of what people are missing is the amount of locals only name dropping going on, from the politicians mentioned at the beginning of S5E58 (Stenny Hoyer, Thomas "Mike" V. Miller, etc.) and the food joints (The Lake Trout, etc).

Hi all. New to the series, hooked totally. Haven't got a TV, so working through DVDs one by one.

Can anyone point me to help with the slang? Some I get in context, most of it flies over my head. It's a rich and colourful language -- really love Bubbles' speech patterns -- but I do need a dictionary or phrasebook.
