I have a hard time with Kennard being Michael's enforcer. Wasn't it in season 4 when Michael slapped Kennard down to the concrete because 1st, of that smart little mouth of his, and 2, he stole Namond's package and was talkin' sh*t. Then Michael told Namond to take his package back from Kennard, and Namond stood there saying, "I ain't want it! I ain't want it!" Then he ran off. I have never heard such a 'geechie' way of talking for someone from B-More. What does "I ain't want it" mean. I could understand him saying, "I don't want it!" Geechie, ignorant, and ghetto. Just like that ghetto hood rat mother of his. I'm beginning to feel that these characters actually live these lives on a daily basis. They act too good. Omar, Snoop, Bubs, Carcetti, McNulty, Namond's mother, just to name a few.

MM, we know this isn't the "American Gangster" website. That's at: http://www.american-gangster.net/ It just happened to be part of a discussion here in this The Wire forum. There are gangsters on The Wire, as there were gangsters in that movie.

Hello Thrice! I see that this thread have taken a wrong turn. This isn't the American Gangster website. Thank you! As for Omar getting got, that was mainly his fault. You can say that he deserved to be clipped by someone better than Kinnard all you want, it was his fault 100%. It's one thing to have something done spontaneously and out of the blue. It's another when you've slacked in observation and cautiousness. I, myself, known to watch out for him. First, when Omar came on Michaels's corner, said this and that, and left. He should've noticed that ONE kid wasn't scared of him, nor was he looking the other way. Strike 1. Second, after Omar told the police about what was going on, on the corner that he planned to rob, he was walking down the block. All of the kids said "Omar, Omar!" and started to run. There was Kinnard, still holding the cat down with the gas bottle in his hand, staying put. Even looked at Omar (disrespectfully) as he was walking by. Strike 2. And we all know how Omar looked at him as he came into the store. Never mind the fact a that it's a kid by himself. And never mind that he put his guard down. Strike 3. So, Omar's demise was on him. Period. It doesn't matter if you think that he should've been slayed by someone else. Talking about it was not right. Please! Anyone has anything else to say about THE WIRE? I'd like to read your thoughts. Thank you!

laidback...here is a Q&A website on Frank Lucas. A lot of what you're saying coincides with what the web site says too. http://www.chasingthefrog.com/reelfaces/americangangster.php Thanks for the enlightenment. However, with drug dealers, as with politicians, lawyers, Frank Lucas himself, and movie producers, who knows who's really telling the true story. I'm not pissed off. I know a lot of things are written and fabricated to hype up a book or a movie; making it for more dramatic reading and/or viewing for the audience.

also, richie roberts never had a kid. frank lucas was illiterate. and not as well spoken as they made denzel make him appear to be. bumpy johnsons wife has also said that he barely had anything to do with frank lucas and was not present at the time of his death.. im not saying this was a bad movie. it was a pretty good actually. alls im sayin is hollywood really likes to run wild with some shit. -- Edited by laidbackula at 02/24/2008 9:08 AM

gccrews... this is form another thread, but it was written right the first time so no need to repeat. but before you get all pissed off. bare in mind that i generally like the movie. "This is complete bull shit AHAHA you watched American Gangster and think you know shit? here read this article by the author of Gangsters of Harlem and Black Gangsters of Chicago. Frank Lucas is a joke any person who knows anything about organized crime knows that. Go watch a hollywood movie. Frank Lucas the American Gangster the Myth and Reality by Anthony Gonzalez and Ron Chapuselek It is surely one of the most dramatic scenes in gangster film history. The movie is the blockbuster, "American Gangster," which opened in theaters U.S. wide last November 2, and is based on what Universal Studios, the film?s producer, claims is a true story. As the movie reaches its climax, audiences wonder: how has Frank Lucas done it? How has he smuggled his heroin supply into the U.S. from Southeast Asia? Then the movie?s hero, Richie Roberts, the character based on the real-life assistant New Jersey state prosecutor of the same name, who prosecuted Lucas, inspects a military plane, which is carrying the corpses of dead GIs from the Vietnam War and has landed at a Newark, New Jersey airbase. After an intensive search for the heroin, Roberts finally opens a casket and the shocking truth is revealed. Much to the horror of movie characters and audience alike, our hero has uncovered kilos of heroin in the coffins of the dead GIs and exposed what has become known in drug trafficking history as the "Cadaver Connection." It?s a great story, one that a suppliant, unblinking media has fueled. Surf the Internet and you will find hundreds of articles discussing as fact how Lucas used the coffins carrying to America the corpses of dead GIs?and most likely the corpses themselves?to smuggle heroin to the streets of America. The reality? It never happened. There is no evidence that coffins carrying dead GIs were used in such a manner. Many prosecutors and law enforcement officials have had their suspicions, but criminals are not convicted on suspicions but on evidence. The authors research reveals that not one trafficker has ever been convicted of trafficking heroin from Southeast Asia via the Cadaver Connection. That is one of many fabrications and falsehoods that Universal Studios, together with media outlets like Dateline NBC, Black Entertainment Television and the History Channel, have propagated since the movies release. That?s the conclusion drawn from our investigation of Frank Lucas?s life and criminal career, which has resulted in a book and documentary, both titled "Superfly: the True, Untold Story of Frank Lucas, American Gangster" (see www.franklucasamericangangster.com/). Our conclusion-? many of Lucas?s claims to fame are bogus, and "American Gangster," the movie, is largely the figment of Hollywood?s fertile imagination. Let?s look at the movie?s major claims that, with Hollywood?s help, are making Lucas a gangster legend: Frank Lucas? and Richie Roberts? "collaboration led to the conviction of ¾?s of New York City?s Drug Enforcement Agency." Or at least that?s the statement scrolled across the screen at the end of "American Gangster." But that claim is outrageous and has made Universal a target of a possible class action lawsuit by DEA agents who helped to bring Lucas down. Another reality check--not one DEA agent was ever convicted of corruption in the Frank Lucas investigation. Not one. "

I'm going to tell u all whats going to happend micheal kills chris in the white truck but tells chris what chris told him before they had killed that whole family to always show up for a murder early so i suspects chris will try to kill mike cause of the evendence agansthimn mikes step dad. Then the city will move in on marlo, snoop, and monk thats when mike and his little corner crew will take over and kennerd gonna be one of mike's top killer for him in his crew I even suspects that it was mike and his little homeboys that took omar's shot gun and kennerd 9mm out the store to cover kennerds tracks cause u all have to remember at the beginning of that episode mike was telling snoop and chris about omar and what he would if he was omar but instead of listening chris and snoop walked off. I come to that concluion cause in every hood there is what i call the cycle. the younger guy always step in and take over in a more ruthless ways.
