Has anyone started watching the past season of The Wire yet? I've just started in the last day or so and Im finding that I'm catching on to more and more! Has anyone else noticed that they missed things the first time around? -- Angela HBO Forums Host

I just noticed the look Burrell and Carver gave to each other in the last episode in S1 when Carver was getting his stripes. That look kind of indicated that Carver got bumped up the Sergeant's list because he was leaking info to Burrell regarding the detail.

The properties themselves were not a sign of wealth. They initially that they would collect when the properties were condemned, which speaks to the quality of and price paid for them. In short, one can own lots of crappy properties without being rich. The federal money was a ruse, and they never saw a penny of it. They got played. I do think they had more than Marlo, but I wouldn't be so sure about Prop Joe. He was an older guy, so my thought is that he held the Eastside for quite some time. He had no flash, just like Avon. He was also linked up with Levy, who I believe was the true brains behind Avon's business dealings. There's no telling how much Prop Joe made, but I'd be confident in saying it was as much as or more than Avon. Hell, he was supplying Avon and the rest of the city from Season 2 onward. As for the writers, I don't think it was that deep. Nobody lasts forever. The progression of Avon's story made sense. Dealers rise and then they fall. Not seeing the issue here.

Ok listening to this recent topic about money..... Yall fail to realize that in Season1 when Lester pinned that newspaper add up about developement zone, Barksdale n 'em had alot of that property to get that federal money, not to mention, it was stated that Barksdale had the Towers for over a year and he was still clearing a MIllion a month with no show of it, no cars just properties and thats it..... I'm not the one for show, but I truely think Avon had more money than any of them then Prop Joe, then Marlo, and that bounty stuff don't mean nothing, Avon left 150gs n tha safe when McNutty n Lt came to get him laughed it off saying don't make no sense to waste a good safe, then posted 500g's bond to get out.....Yall should no better, Barksdale the man and the only reason his story didn't continue is because the writers didnt want it to -- For another pit sandwich n some tata salad, I'll go a couple more!!!!!!

wait till you get to season four. Marlo kicks out 750 large on a package. However, Marlo didn't own real estate like the Barksdale crew. Yeah, he had the prime real estate corners(for selling dope) but he wasn't a business man like Avon. Lester never follows the money on Marlo like he does Avon and Stringer Bell.

Hey Angela, I recently re-watched the first four seasons. There were a few things I picked up on that I missed the first few times. For instance, season two was much better than I remembered.

By the > time Marlo went after Omar, Omar was well known. > But, by the time Marlo went after Omar, I would > d have to say Marlo had more money. I don't think you can speculate on Marlo's wealth relative to Avon based on the size of a bounty. A dealer could be a billionaire, but if the going rate for a hit on a stickup boy is $10K, that's what he'll pay. Marlo put a bounty on Omar for $50K. Marlo had the luxury of having seen that $10K was not enough to get at Omar thanks to Avon's prior failure. Marlo upped it to $100/250K after Joe's death merely for the sake of appearances. He pinned Joe's death on Omar and upped the bounty strictly so the Co-op would buy his story. Slim knew he was lying, but it may have worked on the others. Bottom line is that it had little to do with how much money Marlo had. It was all for show. As for the money in the safe, it didn't seem like Avon flipped out at all. He just opened up the safe and let it go. In general, I wouldn't say Marlo had more money than Avon. They both held Westside distribution for about three years. There's really no telling. If I had to guess, I'd say Avon had more because of his age. Not really sure what Avon was up to before he held the Terrace, but he was in the game in some capacity for quite a while. There was also a legitimate end of his business, the likes of which Marlo had only began to get a whiff of at the end of Season 5.

On the bounty part though. Omar was pretty much a nobody at that point. Just a faggot who hit a lick every now and then. By the time Marlo went after Omar, Omar was well known. But, by the time Marlo went after Omar, I would have to say Marlo had more money.

Hi Angela, I just started season one again, just finished the first three episodes. A few things I noticed. 1. Shardene's looks took big transformation from stripper to housewife. 2. Forgot how well Bubbles played the addict. Check him out in the first three episodes. 4. Pearlman lost some weight over the years. 5. D'Angelo had some problems with how the game was played. He starts to question things when the state witness gets killed. 6. Omar arrived in episode #3. Miss him so much.
