This thread is in no way to defend the finale, which I liked but thought left a lot to be desired in terms of entertainment. There have been a lot of grumblings about it falling short of expectations, some even trashing the season as a whole as a result. What I want to know is, what else did you want to see occur during the finale. Not what they should've done different (example: that you wanted to see a different ending for Dukie). I'm not looking for re-writes, just what you felt was missing. I'll get it started: - I was disappointed that Clay Davis wasn't in the finale, after finally receiving substantial airtime this season. What I thought would've been fitting would be to show him in the ending montage, having lunch/dinner with Marlo, Levy and Krawczyk, or something showing him doing (or attempting to do) business with Marlo.

Just thought of something I'd like to have seen... When Fletcher was following around Bubs to write on his life, it would've been nice to have Fletch look up Kima to get her thoughts, since his getting paid as an informant was a significant part of his survival for a few years. That could've segued into Kima finally visiting Bubs, and seeing that he cleaned up his act - and possibly get a reaction from Bubs (happy to see her; mad that she never visited during his darkest hour; etc.)

I wasn't really disappointed, I think the finale stayed with the way the show really was and what it was meant to be. But some things I would've liked were.. some tieback to Avon McNulty actually facing some fallout for his actions the bsing journalist to get his ass fired but all of these things are "tv" endings that don't portray the real message of the show.. that life goes on.. that it doesn't end the way you want it to... that there isn't always justice.. That's the point of the show

I wanted to see bitch ass scott get his ass handed to him by gus and get put on blast, fired, then made homeless...I was interested in the media side of things at first but it was overdone and the main storyline with scott and gus seemed useless and rushed...which is my feel for the whole season.I wanan know why they had to cut 3 hours after they already annouced 13 episodes? it was pointless....7 episodes straight of build-up, build-up, build-up...then they rushed eveything to a close in the last 3 episodes...forcin the best character ever to die..for ummm..what reason? anyways..i can stomach all my other disgusts with the season, but seein scott go free like that made me throw up in my mouth. -- The ONLY thing better then The Wire, is The Wire Season 6!!!

I must have missed something. Marlo's name wasn't forgotten. He didn't ask the corner boys if they knew who "Marlo" was; he asked them if they knew who he was - by sight - and they apparently didn't. Why would they? After he became the Kingpin, Marlo didn't hang around corners; he held court where he wanted and no one could get near him unless he allowed them to. Very few corner boys would have recognized Marlo by sight, even before he became kingpin: remember that Bodie didn't know what he looked like when he went searching for him in season 3, and Marlo become gradually more insulated from the streets after that. Marlo's name would still ring out after his "retirement"- more than ever: He was the Kingpin, he beat the drug and conspiracy rap, and then he disappeared. He'd be a legend on the streets. -- " . . . and you, my brother, will be riding the boat." "You're not killing them yourself, McNulty, at least assure me of that." -- Edited by lkjdlkf at 03/11/2008 10:06 AM

Marlo- To get killed (by Mike) Michael- To take Marlo's spot I like how they did Chris and Stringer, great job! I was extremely sad to see Dokie on dope but that added a good twist. As far as the newspaper, mayors office, and the officers, I didn't really care for.

Would have been funny to see Valcheck get another picture in the mail of his stolen surveillance van traversing the globe. Finding it hard to believe the Greeks are back in business in the Diner from Season 2 and no one catches on to that! Between Nicky Sobotka, the other stevedores, etc, someone could have spotted either Vondas or the Greek and brought it to the police. & neither Levy nor Marlo figuring out it was Herc who could have been the leak? Could have wrote something in about Cutty, Clay Davis, Avon, etc. After promotion to Lieutenant, Carver then heads up the Major Crimes unit. I'm not trashing the finale at all but given the greatness of this show how do you please everyone and have the final episode live up to the hype? Seasons in order of preference for me: 3 1 2 4 5

Marlo didn't get shot, he got stabbed. Didn't you see the knife on the ground. And yeah, it looks like his name is forgotten on the streets, but you heard those boys talkin' bout the shootout in Monks apartment and the only name they kept repeating was Omar.

Scott Templeton should've been demoted and Fletcher should've won the Pulitzer for his story on Bubs. That would've been a better ending. -- "Let me help you find your tongue."

Also, another great thing about the finale: Clark Johnson (the director) made it look and feel like an episode of Homicide: Life on the Streets. The way he shot the "box" the way he shot the office...hell I was sitting their waiting for Pembleton to come in and close on a motherfucker in the box. ha, that would've been great. I'd have appreciated that homage a lot more than Munch's barstool scene in Ep 57.

Ya, I mean what kind of "closure" are you people expecting. I think too many people were expecting some sort of Bell/Omar moment that made you go OMG! Fact is, there isn't closure for a lot of these characters, we just got a glimpse as to what direction they were pointed at for their future. When the show is about a city and its never-ending cycle, there is no closure per say. The funny thing is, if they ended it the way some people have said they wanted them too, it would take at least another 5 seasons. I'm supposed to believe that in 90 mins I can see Randy and Mike become the new B&B? I'm supposed to believe that Avon is supposed to get out and start "running shit" in a 90 minute period with the anemic pacing the Wire offers? If I remember correctly fan-service was paid in this season (see one: Little, Omar) and it was the worst storyline I've ever seen on the show. I think we would almost all agree that Omar should have stayed in Puerto Rico (although we didn't have to even know he was there imo). Also, another great thing about the finale: Clark Johnson (the director) made it look and feel like an episode of Homicide: Life on the Streets. The way he shot the "box" the way he shot the office...hell I was sitting their waiting for Pembleton to come in and close on a motherfucker in the box.

> They did have the wire, though - it's exactly how > they caught Bell (even though Stringer "cheated" them > out of the arrest, as McNulty rationalized). Yes, > they lost it on Joe, but picked up once they figured > out a way to track the burners and its network. yes, you right, they did have the Wire up for the burners. but it was stringer's tip that lead them to Avon. still the wire wasn't that big of a deal. Hampsterdam played a bigger part. but, back to the story, the way S3 played out, it made more sense. the new political characters were interesting. the emergence of burrell and rawls as major pawns and instigators - very fun to watch. bunny colvin - gambling to make a difference. Even the addition of Cutty made sense. This season, the new characters were dry - not interesting and no connection. Again, if Templeton was paired with Alma and say the two had a friendly rivalry going - and started out honestly liking to report a good story and one going astray, then it would make sense. In fact, it would parallel Bunk and McNulty. Then, character-wise, we would have some vested interest. That movie about Stephen Glass, Shattered Glass or something - with Hayden christiansen - was interesting. You got to see the slow transformation of him. His initial desire to great - and his eventual downfall. Call it hubris or whatever, but it was "relatetable" Templeton? No way to relate to him. He's too old to be naive. He's too selfish to be liked (who wants to identify with a selfish character?). That's where I sense the Wire's faults in this season.

> Only the one scene with Michael was just not enough. > How long can he hide out and rob with everyone out to > kill him? Is everyone really out to get Michael? Marlo is OUT remember? Michael said it himself - that Vincent used to bank for Marlo, but Marlo is out now. So I'm thinking (present continuous tense), Michael doesn't need to fear Marlo. Marlo's name isn't even known on the streets anymore. Snoop is dead. Monk is jailed. Cheese is dead and the rest of the Co-op could care less (specially now since they got the connect). Chris is a lifer with Bey. As one thread here says, Marlo is already dead.
