BornIn, you are way too simple minded to play with me. To think that I can't dislike certain things about Simon while still thinking The Wire has been the best thing on television during its first four seasons- well, that's just simple minded. Actually, it's flat out dumb. Simon is a ridiculously talented man- unfortunately, some of his predilections need to be held in check at times.

I'm glad that you resuscitated that post. I think there has been a disconnect between the way Simon sees Carcetti and the way some of his writers see Carcetti. And the quick, bloody, clumsy character destruction of Carcetti this season has been yet another failing. At least that's what it seems like. I ff'ed through last episodes Carcetti's scenes. The storyline they've got him tied up in is so tedious that I just don't care.

Btw, I was fascinated to see yet another Carcetti scene where they played with the exact same push-in technique earlier this year. This time it felt totally weird and out of place, because Carcetti's words playing over it were not written with the same punch as the ones I referred to three plus years ago. I'll bet you anything that the conversation I had with Simon stuck with him and he put that in because he wanted to HAMMER - THE - POINT - HOME.

Further, if there's been one particular failing of The Wire over the years, it has been how close it has walked to line of being way too heavy handed. This season, it has completely succumbed.

Anyway, here's how dumb your sterling post is: I ORDERED HBO BECAUSE THE NEW WIRE SEASON WAS STARTING.

But I'm not a fan. Riiiiiiiiight. Want to see my bill, Einstein?

I don't get it? Get real. You couldn't possibly come to that conclusion from reading my posts unless YOU have a chip on your shoulder. I get it, I just don't blindly follow wherever Simon says to go.

You can dislike what I have to say, you can disagree, but to act like I don't understand The Wire- what a load.

I think it was Holley who said it first. A white guy was describing a non-descript African-American male. Holley said it, and the white guy asked what it meant. So, Holley said, "Big negro, big gun." The others, Bunk and Crutchfield, said it too (I think).

jmir, the fact is you've always had a chip on your shoulder about Simon. Here's what you posted back in December 2004:

You didn't get it then and you don't get it now.

So please don't come here and pretend you are some disappointed fan of the show let down by Simon in Season Five. Your earlier post speaks for itself.

This was right after Stringer was killed and that fat white dude was there. He said to Bunk that the person he saw was black and had a big gun (shotgun, it was Omar btw)

It means Big NEGRO Big Gun according to Bunk. But, I think N****r Big Gun is more realistic.

New Wire available tonight at midnight for me. Never, ever, have I met a new episode with so little excitement.

I want people to understand a few things. It's not that I have a problem with Simon showing things to have come full circle. It's that we knew this is what he was going to do before the season started. It's that the whole purpose of the season has been for some minor league wannabe lit guy to be able to say some s*** like "thus, the story of the wire has been told" as though it's all profound and s***.

It's THE EXECUTION that I have a problem with.

It's that everything has been so rushed and weak. Bodie's death was well done. Hell, D'Angelo's death was very well done. Wallace's death was brilliant.

Everything this go round is garbage.

Simon said that Stringer had to pay the price, because storyline can't be sacrificed for characters. By the same token, characters can't be jammed into storylines- characters (and by this, I mean the character traits you've created) can't be sacrificed to storyline.

That's what has happened this season.

Things have been so sloppy that when that jammed in scene of Kenard looking at a gimpy Omar (One Whole Episode before the shooting!!!) was shown, it followed a scene where Omar was hardly limping around at all.

Unreal to see the Wire fall so far.

It's the same thing with Prop Joe, the savviest guy around, taking around a known cold-blooded psycopath on basically a "How to be Prop Joe" tour which led to his death. Yeah, right. That makes sense.

The Wire has spit on everything that made it great, including its stellar consistency. It's fitting that the new storyline of this final season, the paper, has been such a dismal failure.

It's apparent that ten episodes were not enough to wrap everything up. The result has been a rushed mess.

I also think Simon has a massive h*** ** for Snoop and Jamie Hector, who I think he is fascinated by and infatuated with.

Hard to go back and enjoy what was such a singular piece of television excellence, knowing how Simon and co. were going to cr** it up in the end.

SHAME!!!!!!!!

Snoop or Chris will get popped off by Killer Mike

A few Wire legends will make a cameo (Maybe Colvin, Naymond or Ziggy Sobotka)

McNulty will get his spot blown (no homo)
