The Barksdales never had the connect. Before joining the co-op, they were selling low quality drugs. Remember when Stringer asked his professor how to market a low quality product?

But they already offered that very clip in last season's final montage. All the more reason to believe that there was nothing left of his character to tell this season, other than the one episode in which he appeared.
Cutty was one of my favorite characters (and it's a very long list, but he's still close to the top), but it was a character that ran its course. Same with Bunny, Namond, Prez and a few others.
If there was one character who probably could've greater factored into this season, it was Randy. Whoever suggested it, I agree - it's not a stretch to have him run away from the group home and come up hard on the streets.
True, his past snitching would've caused conflict w/ Michael, at least in Marlo's eyes - but nothing's to say that he had to end up with Michael. The string could've played out that he was in fact Cheese's son, and started slinging (or more) for East Side players, causing further disrupt in the Co-Op.
Just a thought, but the point being I'd have much rather seen more of Randy's character this season than Cutty's story re-told.

It would have been nice to have seen Cutty, at the gym, helping a new group of boys during the final montage--but then that would have shown hope in the hood--and you know we can't have that.

I was impressed that the WIRE had the intelligence to address the incarceration recidivism issue and Cutty's storyline was used to serve that purpose. Not everyone character carried the same level of importance so he did his part and thats it....
I was actually amazed that his character lasted as long as he did

Obviously Marlo was much smarter than Avon.
That's why Avon is rotting in jail and Marlo is walking free with all his money!

Because in real life the CDC runs the California drug trade, it has to be like that in every state, it makes no sense for Avon to give Marlo the connect for 100 racks, season 5 was hella sloppy.

With Marlo out (assuming he stays out), it would be that much easier for Avon to move what's left of the Barksdale crew back in.

Cutty's character really played out as much as it could and Simon didn't really have any reason to include him more. His character was in the show to show what happens to the players when they get out of jail. Do they go back to the game or search for other options. He served that purpose very well.
His involvement with Mike was very good and the writing and acting in that piece was very good. When Cutty pushed Mike and got shot, it was very true to the street. Mike stopped Cutty from being finished off, but Cutty told him to go be with his people. Cutty knew that it wouldn't look best to his crew otherwise.
There was no valid reason to have Cutty in S5 more than he was. It made sense why he was in the episodes he was, but seeing someone run an inner city gym isn't that exciting. That's why he wasn't in it. He had run his course. Brother was a great character too, but there was no reason for him to be in the show anymore.

Cutty's story already came to a close. He opened his gym and set himself on the right track, that's his new purpose in life. There is no need to put every single character in the ending montage (unless you want it to last 15 minutes lol), it's always fun to leave something to the imagination and have things to discuss Anyway, the only character I was kind of wondering why they left him out is Avon.

I liked Cutty soon as I seen him in S3, but he just fell off and didnt want to be in the game no more.
He was still doing well as we seen in S5 running his gym. I wanted him to have a big part but it never came to surface.
