is there a connection between homicide life on the streets and the wire. i was watching it and theres a lot of similarities..like they had a character like avon on there who they had never seen before and a lot of the same turfs are fuedin on there...

Homicide was based on a nonfiction book written by David Simon, although it diverted significantly from the book. Simon became a writer for the show in its later seasons. After the show got cancelled, Simon created The Wire. So that's the connection.
