Yeah I was gonna say that I don't think they are actually running an operation from there anymore, even though they do still work with Prop Joe (or did work with Joe). Obviously the owner of the diner got in touch with them after Marlo brought that suitcase full of money the first time. Vondas' name won't show up anywhere since he's obviously using different IDs now (and probably has used a few more since they were last in Baltimore).

True, but there still seems to be some inconsistency concerning the San Diego move. Then again, we don't know what happened back then; maybe it was a much more serious case than what happened in Baltimore. However, with a known witness against them and several murder counts, being the players that they are I still would expect them to move to another city- which they apparently did (Marlo telling them to take the money for travel expenses). -- "On this day, when we go to exercise our blessed franchise" "And we will be brief with all of you motherfuckers. I think you know."

True, but there still seems to be some inconsistency concerning the San Diego move. Then again, we don't know what happened back then; maybe it was a much more serious case than what happened in Baltimore. However, with a known witness against them and several murder counts, being the players that they are I still would expect them to move to another city. -- "On this day, when we go to exercise our blessed franchise" "And we will be brief with all of you motherfuckers. Like I said in another thread, it just goes to show how the REAL players always get away. These kids on the corners ain't bringing dope into this country. They're just the ones who get caught. As for Vondas and the Greek, you've seen how the budget rules everything at the police department. They've been off the Greeks for over 3 years now. They still have the casework obviously, but there's nobody actively watching that diner. And there's lots of ports they can use to bring their stuff in. Remember at the end of Season 2, when the ports were shut down, they were shown bringing in dope and girls on trucks. So the moral of the story is that the main guys will always find a way to do their dirt.

As real as this series is, with the much deserved fan fair, if they touched on how it actually got here, David and Simon might as well wrote theirselves into the script and put theirselves in the vacants along with the other decomposing bodies. As long as the focus is on the cold blooded killers, and drug dealers, its cool. But the higher you go up in the chain (how it actuallty gets here?) thats where the real story begins!

I agree. By "go ahead" I didn't mean that The Greek told him to go kill Joe, but he conveyed to Marlo that he understood he might kill Joe and that they wouldn't do anything about it. In other words, to me giving a "go ahead" is the same thing as "not standing in the way". They were tacitly giving permission. -- "On this day, when we go to exercise our blessed franchise" "And we will be brief with all of you motherfuckers. I think you know."

A lot of good points here. I would argue, though, that the Greeks were not giving Marlo the go ahead to move on Joe; only letting him know that they weren't going to stand in the way. I base this on the observation that the Greeks like stability and steady business; they don't overreach. Remember: they left $43 million in heroin on the docks when the fled the country in Season Two. Joe gave them stability - because that's was his way too: "buy for dollar, sell for two, and later for all that gangster bullshit." But the game has gotten more fierce and I really think that the Greek realized that they couldn't stop Marlo from moving on Joe, so he made the decision to deal with what happens: "if we send him away, he will come back: this he shows us."

NYFilmHead: "Cypriot sounds like a good guess for the Greek himself. And Cypress is a haven for terrorist. So all the dope fiends of B-More are supporting terrorists. The drug dealers, too, for that matter." I'm not sure about that. Just because they are from Cyprus (if they are) does not mean that they are terrorists, or their money goes to terrorist. And in Season 2, The Greek mentions terrorism with fairly clear disdain in his voice while speaking about the Columbians: "They take our money and pay less than promised. Down there I hear everyone is a terrorist now. Bombs go off in the street, judges are killed, it's very bad..."

Episode 54 spoler alert. "The game ain't changed, it's just got more fierce." Vondas is sentimentalist: he fell for Nick, and he fell for Joe. The Greek realizes that game has gotten more fierce, and that the Marlos will replace the Joes - as Joe himself more or less recognized in his last remarks to that clown Cheese." Good point. However, I also think that when the Greek said "yes, he is not Joe", he might have been thinking "Yes, Joe is one of the main people who tie us to the case against us, other than Nicko, who as they said in 2 is completely out of their hands. The reason I say this is that I think the Greek gave an implied go ahead to Marlo to Kill Joe: "Who knows what changes tomorrow may bring?" Marlo at least seemed to interpret the remark this way. Still, I do not know which explanation is more plausible.

The Greek sure despised the Turkish seaman who killed the girls in the can, and not just for killing the girls. That speaks to some Greek or Balkan origin. Given the history of Cyprus, Cypriot is sounding better and better.

Remember, The Greek and his org mostly speak in code. So maybe when he said he wasn't even Greek was just a figure of speech. -- "Let me help you find your tongue."
