I know that it has been said that they don't want to do a Season 6 because they have no new topics to discuss, but couldn't they always go back to the originals police and Street perspective? Honestly those are the two that are most interesting. We all know that politicians are corrupt, we all know the media lies and newspapers are fading, we all know that unions are losing power, the only topic that was of any interest to me was the schools. But they could keep going with that classic street/police perspective that made everyone fall in love with the show in the first place. If it isn't broke don't fix it. OR, if you really need a topic, why not the prison system? The groundwork is already there, I can see Avon, weybey, and Chris running things. They could show the ties between the streets and the prison, honestly there is a lot to work with there. PLEASE consider continuing this show, its the only thing I look forward to on TV.

Man I just finished watching the Season 5 Finale of The Wire and I have to say it was very disappointing to say the least. I have felt that way this entire season. I did not at all feel a connection with the characters like in past seasons. I knew it would be hard to top Season 4 but I in no way thought the final season would be this watered down and weak. In my opinion The Wire Season 4 may perhaps be the best season of any show in the history of television. During season 4 I couldn't wait until 12 AM on Sunday when the new episode would be available on HBO On Demand- It was the most into a show/series I have ever felt During season 5 I never experienced this feeling except for the first couple of episodes. By what I have read I can tell many loyal Wire fans share some of these feelings regarding season 5. What happened to all the great character development they worked on throughout season 4? A lot of the fantastic characters from previous seasons simply vanished in season 5. Some got brief cameos during the season but not nearly enough to do the characters justice or to let the fans know how their life stories unfolded. Another huge problem in season 5 was the divide between McNulty and Bunk over the serial killer case- that hostility between them ruined perhaps the best character chemistry in the entire show. And than Greggs rats out McNulty even after Marlo and his crew are arrested- give me a break. And who does not want to punch Scott Templeton in the mouth? Not even Templeton was served the justice he deserved in the finale instead he wins a Pulitzer award. Wouldn't it been a lot better at the end of the finale if Randy and/or perhaps Dookie were with Michael during the hold up. Or if McNaulty would have done something drastic on the side of the road or if Someone would tell the Mayor off for once or if a rich lawyer or politician actually ended up in prison for a change? I don't know I just needed more substance- I will miss The Wire but I will never miss Season 5.

The Wire should have ended in 3 seasons, season 4 and 5 should have been a spinoff called The Hall. Season 4 and 5 had nothing to do with a Wire tap. -- "This sentimental muthafucka just cost us money" Co-sign. After i read that, i thought about it and your right. They had to come up w/ something to create a reason for the wire. The show is called "The Wire" meaning there has to be a wire somewhere. Yo, i doing your statement injustice. Season 5 had nothing to do w/ a wire al fabrication. your post was real talk. The Hall. rofl. "This is Baltimore, no one lives forever."

yeah i think theres still some good direction they could go in for a season 6 they could deal with the distribution of drugs in the jails. thy could deal with avon running the outside once he gets out cause he only had to finish out the remainder of his original 5 or 7 year sentence and weebay and cris and serge could run the inside. namond will end up runnin for office down the line. dukie might not end up as good as bubbles mike is the new omar and so on and so on.

Also I just wanted to add that I enjoyed the ending. The tie up of loose ends was pretty well done, more importantly it left me smiling, which is better than the depressed state the last two shows put me in seeing some of my favorite people killed. A big thanks to the team that made the show.

aw man, the last season of OZ ruined the whole series foe me. That preaceher dude coming back to life to haunt his murderers, and hoyt really being a rebellious rich kid instead of an outlaw biker. Man that s_t was garbage. The Wire should have ended in 3 seasons, season 4 and 5 should have been a spinoff called The Hall. Season 4 and 5 had nothing to do with a Wire tap. -- "This sentimental muthafucka just cost us money"

IN regards to making a Prison show I think that would be a great IDEA. Maybe if David Simon and Ed Burns could get together with The guy who created "OZ" and research where OZ went wrong, I think it could really work. OZ was so Ridiculous after season 3-4 but now with all the msnbc doc's covering stories on jails and life in prison for people who are serving life w o the possibility of parole(like Chris Partlow), their is a big market out their for shows like the wire and oz and homicide and the shield etc. Seriously the baby boomers are dying out and generation y' s idea of an oscar worthy performance has to be violent drug and thriller related(no country for old men) and the tv series we demand have to be drug, mafia, living the high life related(The Sopranos, The Wire, WEEDS etc). If HBO doesnt want to fall behind in the race to stay current and up to date with the pop-culture trends then they will lose big. Just look how many people are posting how they are going to stop watching HBO now or quit HBO subscript bc their shows are over after only 5 seasons. Anyways, PROPs to the best show ever made and I just want to let the creators and crew behind the series know that their will always be a fan here of any work you do in the future....or shall i say ART!!!!!!!!

Season one was great in my opinion. I am simple, I don't need more stuff bugging down the story of this great struggle of police/dealers. It showed us a different face to both sides and I still think that drama would hold. When you think about the most dramatic, heart-wrenching moments in The Wire, it is (for me at least) nearly always in the streets.

If they went back to the streets, Season 6 would just be like Season 1 with most of the characters being replaced. -- Edited by ali56 at 03/09/2008 11:33 PM

How? Marlo just played too cautious. But if your problem with Marlo was him killing potential snitches, Avon and String did the same. Wallace? The security guard? The thing is we didn't get to see Barksdale rise to the top (make a prequel season about that HBO) so people don't see that side of them. They were kings from the beginning for us.

Same, much love to Marlo no matter what the popular opinion here is. What's with what all the hate on him here? Everyone is here saying Avon was dancing naked in the streets everyday or something. People forget season one really fast... Avon peeking his head out the door, then running to the car because he saw two kids down the street. Avon was always outside with protection too, that's just how the king has to be. Marlo was out there as much as Avon imho.
