http://www.metro.co.uk/weird/article.html?in_article_id=82242&in_page_id=2 Theme park's 'slave for a day' event Thursday, January 3, 2008 A theme park where visitors 'play' the role of a slave could soon be a reality for guilt-ridden Europeans wanting to come to terms with their ancestors' brutality. Memory Village will allow visitors to be bound and tortured at a resort in Haiti, which was a slave nation before becoming the world's first black republic. Tourists can play the part of a slave for 12 hours, in which they get a feel for the hardship endured in the Latin American country more than 200 years ago. They can choose if they want to be spectators or participants. If they take part, they will be given traditional African clothing and then 'kidnapped', chained and forced to march to a slave ship in a mock crossing of the Atlantic. They will then be part of a re-enactment where slaves were taken to market to be sold and later broken down with uktorture in quarantine and put to work on a plantation. Towards the end of the 12-hour stay, visitors will take part in a recreation of the slave rebellion which eventually led to the establishment of Haiti. Americans Ron and Carla Bluntschli, who are behind the project, have set up a foundation to get Memory Village off the ground and have already raised enough money to buy half the land needed for their attraction. Mrs Bluntschli said: 'Slavery is a terrible wound. Germany is still suffering trying to get over the Holocaust, and this is a Holocaust that happened for centuries.' The couple, who have lived in Haiti for 22 years, need $700,000 (£350,000) in total to complete their theme park. -- Man gotta have a code -Omar http://www.myspace.com/boycottbet http://www.myspace.com/jblkhd http://www.myspace.com/revolutionary_student http://www.myspace.com/wiseintelligent

Maybe if this is vacation theme is a success in Haiti, we'll see it expand to King's Dominion in Doswell, Virginia. I can just see "Slave 4 A Day" on the big sign next to traffic packed I-95, can't you? For the KD radio commercials, how about Regis Philbin screeching, "Whoooooo wants to beeee a slave for a day?" Coupons? Season pass graphics? How does this compete with Busch Gardens' "Old Country?" No free beer, for one thing, but they do have a Denny's across the road. In the interest of equal time, who gets to be Massa 4 A Day? Gotta ask. Just gotta ask that question, and does that aspect of fantasy role playing cost more for a ticket? > What's next, holocaust themed fat farms? Hands down, that is the funniest thing I have ever read on these forums. Way to go! How about that Jim Jones endorsement for Kool-Aid? -- KBB "Oh, man, m-my BREW!" "History learned through knowledge shared."

Ok, I've thought on this for a few hours now. It does seem pretty twisted to have a theme park. A museum would be more fitting and probably more educational and enlightening. What's next, holocaust themed fat farms?

While I fail to see what this has to do with The Wire, it's pretty whacked out to say the least -- not that anything posted on here has to do with HBO or The Wire, you know. -- KBB "Oh, man, m-my BREW!" "History learned through knowledge shared."

Whatdaphuck ever!!!! Let them build one of them b1tch's in my city. There would be a helluv alot beat up, robbed and butt naked visitors runnin around. -- Yo!!! You all on me for? I do my work. Couldn't be in Oaktown, D. There are still social and psychological remnants of the black power movement out there. Despite the damage that was done by drugs. You're right there would be a lot of beat up tourists. That park would be burnt to the ground in 24 hours. I wouldn't set foot in the place. Roots educated me enough. -- Blu "Crown ain't worth much if the nigga wearin' it always gettin' his sh!t took." "The whole world shines sh!t and calls it gold."

They wouldn't want to play no away games ever again yadig. Like I said before, too touchy a subject to even broach.... -- Yo!!! You all on me for? I do my work.

I wouldn't think of it as an amusment park, but more of an educational/historical - experience; and not just for guilt ridden Europeans - but anyone who wanted to experience it. Kinda of like when people travel to Africa to walk down The Point of No Return, the last walk where Africans were forced to board the slave ships. I know pastors who've actually taken that walk and said they felt an overwhelming since of sadness, yet connected. Oprah Winfrey once did a show in Africa at The Point of No Return. Haitians have been known to practice African religions, such as Hoodoo, so there could be a since of spirit or heebey~jeebeys in the tropical atmosphere. And I'm not predjudiced or blaming any race - just sayin, it could be an interesting place if it were put together nicely and as realistic as it could possibly be. 12 hours of that would be grueling... -- Kissed A Day In The Life
