What are folks favorite Prop Joe moments? One of mine is when he was talking about Brother Mouzone in the second season and said (I'm para-phrasing since someone has my DVD set) "That nigga has more bodies than a Chinese cemetery!"

1 of my favorite lines that Prop Joe said is in Season 4, when Omar ran-up in his store and Joe give up the tip on the shippment and he tell Cheese: "Was you listening, Omar on one side with a spade and maybe Marlo to the other with a shovel and just at this moment I manage to crawl out my own damn grave, no way do I crawl back in" Prop Joe's death was no suprise to me because he was doing so shady shit the whole Season 4, especially when he told Omar about Marlo being at the poker game, so Prop Joe had a go, no question -- " I wasn't made to play the son" -- Edited by avonandwebay at 02/06/2008 3:49 PM

My favorite quote and what was probably just a glimpse into what the Proposition Joe charachter was going to be like came in Season 1. He played AVON soooo well in that EAST/WEST Basketball game by losing the first half and then after Avon got cocky he "propositions" him by saying You wanna double down on that bet?. Classic and that moment let me know that he will always be making propositions to try and keep himself to top. Even in his last moments....

More Bodies than a Chinese Cenmetery, That is vintage Prop Joe, master of metaphor (probably simile actually but Master of Simile doesn't have the same ring.). How about Butchie dabbleing a little. He was quiet as a puppy walking on cotton. -- " "A Man must have a Code" The Bunk "Its what a war is. Once you in it you in it." Slim Charles "That Halibut is good enough for Jehovah!!! After the altercation with Method Man and Brother Mouzoune, meth was in Joe's shop telling him how he wanted to go after him. Prop joe's response...... "You wanna go after Brother?, that man got more bodies under him than a Chinese Cematary" always thinking that Joe....always thinking, I am sure he thought about his own death, how and who, and I would not be surprised if the "fat man" has one more proposition up his sleve for all of us to see real soon. Proposition Joe: I heard your end would be covering my fee. Stringer Bell: Your fee? Proposition Joe: Yeah, I'm like a marriage counselor. Tell the man he oughta bring the bitch some flowers every once in a while. Tell the bitch she gotta suck some cock every once in a while. That sort of shit. Omar approaches... Proposition Joe: Speaking of cocksuckers... Proposition Joe: I'm Proposition Joe. You fuck with me, I'll kill your whole family.

Prop Joe was a monumental character... My favorite lines from her were: 1) At the basketball game when the ref. didn't call that foul and Avon went nuts. The ref said "I don't want no problems" and in the background you can here Prop Joe say, "Ain't gone be no problems over basketball." This to me let me know that in his first scene, he had just as much gansta power as Avon. 2) After they leave the arrangements place in getting flowers for Butchie, as they stand outside Slim ask him, "you don't think no flowers gone stop Omar from coming at us". Prop Joe responds, "Butchie was a good man. Old School. blah blah blah... Omar is on the hunt and i got history with him, and out of respect for that man's skill set, imma lay low until it blows over".. This let me know, he's know which battles are worth fighting.

Just to add on to what I was saying before in another thread, Prop Joe had a lot of old-school values. If you noticed, he lives in a row house that his grandfather purchased, so he owns his own house. He explained to Cheese how important that was. Also, he spends most of his days in a repair shop (a legitimate business he OWNS) fixing old, but valuable, merchandise. That says a lot about him. Think about it: he believes in fixing problems, like the toaster he fixed in S2 & placed back on the shelf to be sold, but he had insight to know that "newer" models are made so cheap that it's better to throw them out rather than repairing. You can compare these analogies to Nick/Ziggy Sobotka (toaster) and Old Face Andre (cheap stereo he was fixing). Both parties came to Prop Joe looking for help. Bottom line is that Prop Joe was about family and ownership, but that was something that Cheese, and the younger hustlers like Marlo, do not value.

Prop Joe's death was kinda an omen. When he was telling Slim Charles that he wanted him to watch Cheese, they were standing directly on North Ave and Charles St. I know, because there really is a flower shop and a Kennedy's Fried Chicken on those lower corners, BUT the chicken shack is on the west side of the street, opposite to where they were standing. I don't know where the connection is, but I'm pretty sure somebody can pick this up and run with it. Also, for y'all geography buffs, Charles & Baltimore Streets divide the streets N,S,E,W, but North and Charles is the exact center of the inner city. Think about THAT, along with what Avon told Marlo, what Mouzone told Cheese, and basically what this whole Eastside/Westside mentality is all about!

My fav will always be his last one, where he shows Cheese the Van Vechten (Harlem Renaissance) style picture of his grandfather (Cheese's great grand) posing in a tux, and explains how he was a Block-buster and pioneer for his race and family. The pride Joe took in that, the evidence of all those generations of business sense, and Cheese blowing it all off completely... ...one last heartbreak before the final betrayal--by his own blood. "Somewhere down the line your generation lost sight of that." "My nephew...my sister's boy. He always was a disappointment."
