Using The Wire to teach about diversity

I am invited to guest lecture for a graduate class on Multicultural awaeness. I plan to use some clips from The Wire to generate discussion. Any ideas on best clips to use. It will be helpful to recall the season & episode if you can.

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but one of the things that struck me about the portrayal of the corner kids was their lack of awareness of things that other people take for granted.

I just watched Ep. 1 of season 5 and they show the detectives giving a "lie detetector" test to a young man by taping his arm on a copy machine. They already have the results printed out.

They ask him a question, hit the "copy" button, the green light shows and then they show him the paper that says "True" or "False", and he confesses.

The kid has no idea what a copy machine is.

I Season 4, Ep. 9, Bunny Colvin takes the winners of a contest to Ruth Chris Steakhouse as a prize. These kids end up being embarrassed because they realize they don't know certain things about this world but are so experienced and knowledgeable about the "corner" life.

In a later episode in season 5, Marlo Stanfield is trying to "clean" his money at the lawyer's sugestion. He doesn't know what it means and he doesn't understand banking at all.

These examples show how the larger society can perceive these kids as being dumb or slow or just violent without realizing that their experiences are so different from the majority.

It also isn't just racial differences. Bunny, who is African-American, didn't realize that taking the kids to an upscale resaurant would ultimately make them uncomfortable.
