whats the word MOPE mean??

Can someone please define the word *MOPE* it is used through the show so much; and I've heard mope so many different times; that its kind of confusing as to who or what a mope is?? whats the actual definition of the word MOPE?? would it be appropriate to use to describe?? a criminal?? murderer?? drug dealer?? felon?? I can't figure it out and its driving me crazy!! I lay in bed trying to figure it out to no avail!! anybody I ask doesn't know what it means so I had to ask the peeps that would know!! can someone please help me?? thanx I am dying to know what it means!!

p.s. theirs got to be a way to extend the wire!! not just for 1 more season either!! why end one of the greatest series ever?? same with the soprano's?? I know HBO ratings don't decline!! why do they always end them when their so POPULAR AND IN DEMAND??

While I sympathize with your comments, M, the simple fact is that SimCo said all they wanted to say. (And said it better than just about anyone else could.) And ending the show when it was so popular is actually not such a bad idea. Better that way, than going on past their prime and going gradually down hill, right?

Let me make a suggestion to ease your pain. Why not come over to the Marathon thread where we are discussing The Wire on a weekly basis one episode at a time using the dvd's as reference.

Currently we are on S1/E5 and will begin discussion of E6 this Sunday evening, May 4 about 9:00pm (EST) If you don't have the dvd's an Episode Summary is posted before each episode discussion begins.

So rather than mourning the loss of a great show why not celebrate what we did have? There is still plenty to talk about.
