Has the Wire inspired you to get involved in Baltimore or your own community? The characters are fictional, but their stories are real. I know a student like Duquan, who walked home from school one day to find an eviction notice on his door. He walked miles to his grandmother's house and didn't see his mother again for 5 years. He got involved with the drug trade and almost failed out of high school. Now, however, he is in college. What happened? He didn't give up hope and people didn't give up on him. He is one of many kids like Duquan and Namond who I have met through the Incentive Mentoring Program. The Wire inspired me to get involved and now I see Baltimore's success as well as failures. Has the Wire inspired you? What have you done with your new understanding of urban America?
