After The Wire: What are you watching now?

What are people watching now that The Wire is over?

Dexter looks interesting. Any other recommendation?

Just started on Deadwood. Had the DVDs for over a year now. Delayed starting for lack of time (when I finally find time I like to consume series in big gulps, 3-4 hours a night at least).

I must say, just as good as the Wire in many respects, although obviously not as directly translatable to the modern times. In many respects, that makes it all the more delicious.

I like the fact that HBO series' require more viewer involvement to maximize value. I like the fact that they respect our intelligence enough to believe that we'll actually pay attention to such things as plot and its devices. Good stuff.

I think Wire heads would like Dexter. I finished watching the first season and waiting for season 2 on DVD. Very interesting show.

Nothing now, nothing is relevant. American TV is mostly meant to be background noise (and it succeeds magnificently at that task).

Generation Kill is the only thing relevant on the horizon. If it lives up to the hype, it could well be the next great series, assuming HBO and David Simon and crew are up to the task.

It certainly appears that barring an Obama victory in November (and really, who knows even if given that?), that a further American meltdown in Iraq is a given. If nothing else, that at least makes for good TV. Glad I don't have kids in the fight, and hate it for those who do.

And yes, I'm (wife)-whipped enough to admit that I watch Desperate Housewives more often than not.

you misread, I do watch Lost - been (im)patiently waiting the past five or so weeks for it to return this Thursday! Can't wait.

I'll probably do like TopBunk and watch Heroes on DVD... after the NBA playoffs. LOL... honestly, i just don't have that much time for shows these days. I work, I write, I coach my daughters' sports teams... whatever spare time is left over is spent checking off shit on my wife's honeydew list.

I went out and bought Heroes season 1 watched it. Loved it, so I downloaded season 2 cut short by the writers strike. I have been watching Smallville since it first started, it has become much darker this season. I am looking forward to that 7 part miniseries. I guess I will go back to watching The Wire DVD's and tivo's.
